Engineering College Status

Woodchurch High School

Woodchurch High School has been an Engineering College since 2002. Our engineering aims are to increase pupils’ understanding about the possibilities and value of engineering, and to encourage more pupils to pursue a career in one of the many fields of engineering.  All our specialist rooms are fully equipped with the very latest technology.

These excellent facilities enable all our pupils to enhance their technology and ICT skills and this leads to further and higher education opportunities or modern apprenticeships for a large number of children. Additional staff, both technicians and teachers, have been employed to enable us to work even more closely with colleagues and pupils from our partner institutions. These involve primary and secondary schools, the Mersey Maritime and Engineering College (Northwest Ltd.) which is local Centre for Vocational Excellence, universities and industries, such as TTE, Jaguar and Vauxhalls.

The focus areas for Engineering are: Design Technology, Maths, Science and ICT and there continues to be much development within these subjects. However, at Woodchurch the profile of Engineering is raised across all areas of the curriculum through initiatives such as the annual Engineering Fortnight, cross curricular projects and industrial visits. This year we were delighted to be redesignated as an Engineering College and as a high performing specialist school we have been invited to apply for a second specialism.
