VE DAY CELEBRATION

Thursday 8 May 2025

Our school SPARKS group were invited to a VE day celebration style street party on Thursday May 8th. It was a wonderful time to reflect on the sacrifices made both at home and abroad to give us the freedom we enjoy today.

The history department contributed some artifacts for our displays, with Mrs Goddard producing a time-line wall display of events leading up to VE Day and the street party celebrations.

One of our SPARKS pupils, Paige, took the part of an evacuee from Wirral and told her story.

All enjoyed party food (on producing a ration ticket) from that era, jam sandwiches, Victoria sandwich, jam tarts and all drank from authentic teacups.

Mr. Canham visited the group as pupils read different facts about life in 1945. There was a special visit from our very own Vera Lynn singing, ‘White Cliffs of Dover.’ this was followed by games from the era, hopscotch, marbles, and tin can alley.

All enjoyed the authentic experience being transported back in time. It was a special afternoon full of nostalgia, reflection but most of all gratitude.

Let us never forget.
