RATIONALE FOR REWARDS, CELEBRATION, AND LEADERSHIP STRATEGY

Woodchurch high school is a very successful, over-subscribed co-educational Church of England school, which strives to live out its vision: ‘let your light so shine before all, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven’

Matthew 5:16

Our vision, rooted in the teachings of Jesus, calls us to be a light to others, shining brightly with our actions and deeds. Therefore, our rewarding, celebration and leadership strategy should embody this vision and enable our students to shine their light into the world.

Rewarding, celebration and leadership serve as catalysts for nurturing the potential of each child, allowing them to flourish academically, spiritually, and personally. This rationale aligns with the requirements of the National Curriculum, which emphasises the importance of developing pupils’ character, resilience, and leadership skills. When we acknowledge and celebrate our pupil’s accomplishments, we affirm their inherent worth and dignity as individuals. This affirmation instils in them a sense of purpose, confidence, and self-esteem, empowering them to embrace their unique gifts and talents with pride and gratitude.

Matthew chapter 5 verse 16 teaches us to let our light shine before others, so that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven. By celebrating the achievements and values of our students, we exemplify this principle, illuminating the path for others to follow and inspiring them to flourish in all they do.

As we recognize the achievements of our students, we also celebrate the vision and values that define our school community, reinforcing our commitment to living out the teachings of Jesus in all aspects of our lives. The Rewards, Celebration and Leadership Strategy is designed to be aspirational, providing all pupils with the opportunity to flourish academically, spiritually, and personally, regardless of their starting points.

Our rewards, celebration and leadership strategy is designed to:

  • Promote academic excellence: Recognising and rewarding outstanding academic achievement will encourage students to strive for their best.
  • Foster personal growth: Celebrating personal achievements and milestones will help students develop a positive self-image and a sense of accomplishment.
  • Develop leadership skills: Providing opportunities for students to take on leadership roles and be recognized for their contributions will help them develop essential skills for the future.
  • Encourage positive behaviour: Rewarding and celebrating positive behaviour will reinforce our school’s values and behaviour curriculum thus creating a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Connect with the wider community: Inviting parents, carers, and members of the community to celebrate student achievements will strengthen our school’s relationship with the local community.
